Jajpur: The craze for taking selfie proved out to be fatal for a 17-year-old girl of Sadar police station area in Jajpur who accidentally drowned in Kharasrota River on Sunday. The girl has been identified as Shaista Begum.
According to sources, Shaista along with her cousin sister Nazrin Begum (19) had gone to Tantighai ghat of the river on Sunday to take bath. However, before taking bath, the duo was clicking pictures with a mobile phone when both of them accidentally slipped into the river.
Some locals who witnessed the incident swung into action and jumped into the water to rescued them. Even though Nazrin was rescued from the water, the locals could not trace Shaista.
Informed, fire services personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. However, latest reports said that the girl is yet to be traced. The search operation which was called off during the night has been resumed today.
