Puri: The Supreme Court-appointed amicus curiae Gopal Subramanium who is on a two-day visit to hold discussions with various stakeholders on the proposed disciplinary reforms in the management of Puri Jagannath temple affairs, today urged the servitors to refrain from accepting donations (daan-dakshina) from the devotees.
During discussions with the Chhatisa Nijog (servitors' body), the senior lawyer advised the servitors to maintain decorum, transparency and discipline while dispensing their services at the shrine.
Senior servitor Gourahari Pradhan informed that "The amicus curiae has strictly asked us to refrain from collecting donations and has suggested setting up designated places where all devotees can donate."
"We are happy on the suggestions of the amicus curiae. He has directed the servitors to show good manners and obedience and we hope that everyone will abide by it," said president of Daitapati Nijog, Rama Krushna Dasmohapatra.
Earlier in the day, the amicus curiae interacted with Puri King and the temple management committee and discussed about the temple affairs.
Sources said the amicus curiae will visit Puri Srimandir after three weeks when he will review the matter again.
