Bhubaneswar: A day after a controversy broke out over a poster of actor Papu Pom Pom’s upcoming film 'Mr Kanhaiya', the comedian today took to social media pleading his innocence over the poster.
The actor comedian clarified that the released poster showing him holding multiple girls on leash with a rope tied to their necks is not at all his concept.
“Since the shooting was carried out in a college, someone might have collected the still images and used them to create the concept. After controversy erupted over the poster, I asked the producers of the film if it was designed by the crew, but he declined saying that it was not at all the official poster of the film,” said Papu.
The actor further requested everyone not to blame him for the poster. “I accept that the poster is demeaning to women but I have no role in it. Besides, I urge others to find the real culprit so that he can be punished," he said.
Yesterday, the poster had gone viral on social media. Alleging that such a depiction is sheer disrespect to women, several cine critics and other social activists in the State condemned it and urged the State government to take stern action against the actor, producer & director of the movie.
Even though Ramesh Rout, director of the film, has clarified that it was not an official poster of the film, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahu today informed that a police complaint has been lodged at Mahila Police Station on charges of indecent portrayal of women.
“On the basis of the complaint, a case has been registered under Section 6 of Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. The production house under which the poster has been released will be called for interrogation into the case. But so far we have not received any statements or clarification regarding the case,” said Sahu.
