Berhampur: The elephant calf which was rescued by villagers and forest staff from a pit at Birudibandhapalli near Ganjam died of its injuries, official sources said.

"The two-month-old female calf rescued on June 12 had sustained severe injuries in two of its legs and was very weak. It died yesterday at the veterinary hospital at Rambha," forest ranger, Khallikote, P K Nayak said.

The elephant was kept at the hospital since Saturday, he said.
