Bhubaneswar: Summer rains, not the cyclone triggered rain, will lash Odisha till May 5. The probable cyclone taking a hit at Odisha on May 4-5 ebbs further. But post May 5, heat wave will return to the State with a bang.
After prediction by Government of India's top monsoon research unit, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) and US-based National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) GFS model, now a weather model of Canada Met Centre (CMC) predicts that the 'probable' cyclone will head towards Myanmar and may make landfall there on and around May 4 - 5.

But it's not rosy all the way for Odisha. Weather models show the State will undergo a dry run from May 6 and will continue so till May 21. Odisha will be witnessing heat wave spells during the period with the peak reaching on and around May 17. (See the images below)

However, a little relief for the State is , as per the IITM model, no severe heat wave conditions in the month of May this year.
The IITM model further says there is a 30 per cent probability of the heat wave making an entry into the State from the districts in the south interior Odisha like Malkangiri, Koraput, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Bolangir, Nuapada and Kalahandi etc from May 6.
As far as the climate in Bhubaneswar is concerned, the capital city will feel the heat around the same period.
The grim forecast of the IITM model is entire Odisha will slip into the grip of heat wave on and around May 17. The model further predicts that districts like Angul in Central Odisha will bear the brunt of the scorching heat conditions during the period. The current weather warning for the State is some places in Odisha may witness hail storm tomorrow. Meanwhile, the GFS forecast predicts that Odisha will see fairly widespread rainfall from tomorrow noon, and heavy rainfall is predicted for Mayurbhanj district.

While heavy rain is predicted for the district of Jagatsinghpur on April 28, the State will record dry and sunny day on April 29. However, heavy rain is again predicted at some places from the beginning of May. Balasore may witness heavy rain on April 30. On May1, GFS prediction shows Kendrapara will record heavy rainfall.
