Bhubaneswar: Even as IMD has predicted formation of a Low Pressure Area (LOPAR) on August 29 over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, weather models indicate of forming of another LOPAR over southwest central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood near Odisha coast on and around September 2.
Significantly, an analysis of the weather parameters released by IMD and INCOIS indicates the system may further develop into a depression by around September 3.
As per IMD, the State will not witness any significant rainfall tomorrow (August 28). Rains will commence from August 29 and the State will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 30 & 31. The IMD has issued an orange alert for the State for the two days.
Though the meteorological analysis further reveals of formation of another LOPAR over southwest central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood near Odisha coast on around September 2, there seems no clarity over its impact on Odisha as of now.
Since the movement of a Monsoon low or a depression depends on the position of monsoon trough, the haze over the developing situation will attain some clarity in the coming 48 hours, inform sources in local met office here.
However, the forecast for September 2 & 3 made by IMD predicts heavy rainfall in MP and adjoining Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Rajasthan and north-eastern States. Rest of the States, including Odisha, are going to experience only scattered rainfall.
If the forecast holds true, then Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana will not be witnessing any significant rainfall on Ganesh festival (September 2). The regions are most likely to remain dry.
The rainfall data available with the IMD shows Odisha receiving largely excess rainfall during the last week in August. Odisha had recorded 216 per cent excess rainfall yesterday (August 26). The total rainfall so far received by the State this Monsoon has been 86.5 cm, which is mere 1 per cent less than average normal rainfall received by the State.
However, the five districts of Angul, Balasore, Deogarh, Gajapati and Keonjhar are still in the deficient rainfall bracket. Met experts are of the opinion that situations may improve for the districts like Angul, Keonjhar and Gajapati in the days ahead.
