Keonjhar: A brief spell of rain on Sunday exposed the awful condition of Keonjhar district headquarters hospital (DHH), despite marathon makeover put up overnight by authorities in view of the visit of State 5T secretary VK Pandian.
According to sources, on the one hand while Pandian was taking stock of the implementation of 5T and Mo Sarkar initiatives at the hospital, massive refurbished works to improve the deplorable condition of the hospital and its premises which were carried out on a war footing fell flat as a spell of moderate rainfall washed away everything.
Various wards in the hospital premises remained waterlogged during Pandian's visit. Rainwater entered various wards of the hospital due to chocked drains. Several doctors and other staff remained stranded due to the waterlogging.
The rainwater also entered the maternity ward causing considerable inconvenience for the patients as well as staff. While the entry of rainwater raised fear of infection among the children, the doctors at the hospital also expressed disappointment over the issue. They alleged that although drain water enter the hospital, it is not being cleared regularly.
“I feel very bad from the core of my heart that I am working in this hospital. If we fear getting infected due to the poor hygienic condition, just imagine about the kids and vulnerable patients,” said hospital gynaecologist Mamatarani Jena.
Sashikala Panda, a staff nurse, said “Due to rain, we could not attend the meeting of the 5T secretary. We could not come out of room due to overflowing drain water. The rainwater also entered several wards.”
