Puri: The Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred its hearing of the case on Puri Srimandir reforms after amicus curiae Gopal Subramaniam sought four-week time to submit report.
Subramaniam has asked for more time to examine Puri Srimandir and give a report to the apex court, Counsel of the petitioner Subhransu Padhi informed.
As per reports, the SC hearing was scheduled to be held today.
The apex court, after hearing the case on June 8 and July 5 had directed the temple administration for implementation of 12 proposals as a part of disciplinary reforms in Puri Srimandir.
However, the servitors’ body and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) are yet to reach a consensus on three proposals- abolition of hereditary appointment of servitors, prohibition of collection of money for Annadan Atika by servitors and amendment of Shri Jagannath Temple Act, 1954
Meanwhile, a three-member expert committee constituted by the State government recently held a public hearing on the different issues regarding reforms and suggested proposals on disciplined darshan of devotees.
