Puri: Amid demands for the reopening of Puri Srimandir, the temple authorities informed that over 400 servitors and employees of Puri Jagannath temple have tested positive for Covid-19 so far.
Even after the rise in Covid-19 cases, many Sebayats (Servitors) who have tested positive were allegedly entering the temple premises. Following such allegations, the Shree Jagannath Development Committee on Tuesday issued a statement maintaining that Sebayats who have tested positive will barred from entering the temple premises strictly.
The committee has also decided that legal action will be taken against the Sebayats who have tested positive and found breaching Covid-19 guidelines by entering the temple. Covid-19 reports of all Sebayats and staffs have been given to the commanders (temple guards). Positive tested Sebayats will have to stay isolated, under mandatory quarantine, for 17-days.
Puri Shree Jagannath Development Commissioner Ajay Jena also informed that spitting and consumption of tobacco are strictly prohibited inside the temple premises.
Earlier, the State government in a submission before the Orissa High Court expressed its unwillingness to reopen Puri Srimandir and other religious shrines in the State in view of the Covid pandemic situation.
