Puri/Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday expressed displeasure over the course of the investigation into the Puri custodial death case and sought an action taken report from the State government.
The High Court has also asked whether a case has been registered against the accused police personnel under section 302 of IPC. The court has also sought the medical examination report and post-mortem report of the deceased.
Besides, the court has directed the government to submit all the documents along with the magistrate inquiry report by the next date of hearing which is scheduled for January 11, 2021.
The HC also directed the Advocate General to look into the progress of the investigation and check whether it is moving in the right direction.
It is pertinent to mention here that the post-mortem report of K Ramesh, who reportedly died in the custody of Baseli Sahi police, revealed that he was subjected to severe physical torture before his death. The body of the deceased bore as many as 16 injury marks which were possibly inflicted with sticks.
Doctors, who conducted the autopsy, stated that the death of Ramesh occurred due to severe head injuries as a clot of around 250 ml of blood was found in the brain of the victim during post-mortem.
Later, the Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Baseli Sahi police station Jibanananda Jena was transferred to the State headquarters as per the norms of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to facilitate an impartial investigation.
Moreover, the then SP Akhileswar Singh was also transferred to the police headquarters while three lower-ranked personnel of Baseli Sahi police station were placed under suspension.
