Khurda: Death of a youth in Bajapur of Khurda led to violent clash between the locals and police today.
According to sources, body of a local youth was found hanging in Bajapur following which the family members of the deceased reportedly asked the police to lodge a complaint of murder at the local police station.
Later the relatives of the deceased along with locals gheraoed the office of Khurda Collector alleging police inaction.
On being informed, the SDPO visited the place to pacify the agitators but the protesting mob turned violent and attacked police officials including the SDPO and also pelted stones, informed sources.

To disperse the violent crowd, police resorted to lathicharge, added sources.
The SDPO is reported to have sustained injuries during the clash.
“On receiving the news of SDPO and other police officials being attacked by a mob, I visited the spot. I tried to pacify the agitators but they didn’t yield to our requests and began protesting by placing the dead body of the youth on the road, which affected vehicular movement. We had to resort to lathicharge to disperse them and bring the situation under control,” said Khurda SP, Dipti Ranjan Ray.
