Puri: Taking stern note of the recent incident where a tourist couple was allegedly misbehaved and beaten up by staff of a private bus in Puri a few days back, police on Thursday announced a slew of measures for the safety of tourists coming to the pilgrim town.
As part of its strategy, the Puri Police today re-launched a dedicated ‘Tourist Helpline’ number.
The Helpline number- 6370967100 will be a single-window contact number which can be used by any tourists coming to Puri to lodge their grievances. The Helpline number will function 24x7 and will be displayed prominently inside all tourist buses.
A meeting of all private tourist bus associations was held under the chairmanship of Puri Superintendent of Police today and several other issues related to the safety and security of the tourists were discussed during the occasion.
Puri being one of the major tourist destinations in Odisha and the abode of Lord Jagannath, the office bearers of private tourist bus associations assured to cooperate with the district police in all possible manner.
It is pertinent to mention here that a tourist couple from West Bengal was allegedly heckled by staff of a private bus operator in Puri on February 1.
In a video, the couple had alleged that they were harassed and later beaten up by the bus driver after they demanded to disembark near Harihar Square.
