Bhubaneswar: The admission into Plus-II streams of various junior colleges and higher secondary schools begun in Odisha today amid reports of some lapses.
As per reports, thousands of students selected in the first merit list and their parents gathered at various SAMS centres for the admission. But as soon as the admission process began, some students at the Bhubaneswar BJB Higher Secondary School were unable to download their intimation letter from the server of the official website- www.samsodisha.gov.in due to which they along with their parents were forced to wait for hours to enroll their names in their preferred colleges.
“We could not download the intimation letter from the website, however, the college authorities assured us that the problem would be solved soon,’ said a student's parent at BJB Higher Secondary School in Bhubaneswar.
After some hours the authorities of the BJB College reportedly allowed admissions on the basis of application number of the students even though they did not have intimation letters.
On the other hand, authorities of Ravenshaw Junior College informed that the admission process could not be started due to the technical glitches in the website.
"We have not started the admission process. We will wait for the website issues to get resolved so the students can download that intimation letters. Thereafter we will carry out the admission of the students," he said.
Later, the authorities of the Ravenshaw college also started the admission process on the basis of the application number of the students.
On the other hand, the CBSE and ICSE students also faced problems during the admission as they were unable to produce the affidavits required to take admissions in colleges because of the ongoing strike by lawyers in several parts of the State.
“We have received the marksheet but the migration certificate is yet to come from the CBSE. In order to take admission, colleges are asking us to produce an affidavit from court or undertaking but we are unable to submit the same due to the ongoing lawyers’ strike,” said a parent at Ravenshaw Junior College in Cuttack.
In the first phase, as many as 3, 33,573 students have been selected for admissions into Arts, Commerce, Science, Sanskrit streams and Vocational Education. The admission process will continue till July 6.
The second merit list will be announced on July 8 and admission will be conducted between July 9 and 11.Spot admission for students who fail to get admission in the first and second phases will be carried out from July 20 to 22.Thereafter, classes will commence from July 24.
