Bhubaneswar: Amid reports that people in Odisha are facing numerous problems after being issued 'wrong challans', Transport minister Padmanabha Behera on Friday said the money will be refunded in such cases.
“Those who are violating traffic rules and escaping without paying penalties will be identified through CCTV cameras installed at various traffic junctions. Based on the CCTV camera footage, challans will be issued against the violators,” Behera said.
Asked about some instances where challans have been wrongly issued to motorists, Behera said, “It should not happen. If there is any such instance of mistakes, money will certainly be refunded to the people," the minister said.
Speaking about the recent directive of the Orissa High Court on rehabilitation of agents at Regional Transport Offices (RTO), the minister said, “We have not received the directive yet. Once we get the order copy, we will review it and take appropriate decision in this regard.”
Behera further said not all the agents, but those who were operating from the premises of RTOs with official permission will be rehabilitated. “Not all the agents, but only those who were operating with authorised permission since 2000 will be rehabilitated,” he clarified.
