Bhubaneswar: The state Assembly witnessed pandemonium on Friday with Opposition Congress continued to stage protest for the second consecutive day in the well demanding a special discussion on the farmers’ issues. The sloganeering members of the Opposition did not allow the speaker to continue proceedings of the house two times, forcing the latter to adjourn it till tomorrow.
No sooner the house started in the morning, nearly 12-15 members of the Opposition trooped into the well with placards demanding Rs 300 per quintal bonus for paddy farmers. The members raised slogans against the ruling government’s ‘step motherly’ attitude towards the farmers of the state and tried to stall the house with stomping feet.
Despite protest by the Opposition members, the speaker managed to run the question hour in the morning for nearly 20 minutes before adjourning the house till 3 pm. But it could not run second time as the vociferous members again disrupted the proceedings sticking to their demand.
The assembly session had witnessed a similar chaos on Thursday when some Congress legislators created ruckus in the well on farmers’ plight leading to stall the question hour for two times.
