Balasore/Kadapa: A day after publication of a news in odishatv.in, on ordeal of some girls from Odisha who were subjected to 'inhuman torture' at a spinning mill in Andhra Pradesh, the Kadapa police in the neighbouring state on Friday jumped into action and rescued four girls and five boys from the mill.
The development came after a teacher, Dibas Kumar Sahu from Bijepur, Bargarh tweeted the OTV story about those girls who were forced to do menial jobs against their wish and reportedly put under house arrest at Digital Cotton Mill in Kadapa.
Without delaying a minute, the police sprang into action and rescued the girls along with five other boys from captivity.
Anita Jena, one of the girls from Amarda Road in Balasore thanked the media and police for swift action in rescuing them from the mill.
While speaking with OTV, Anita Jena had described her ordeal as "Inhuman Torture." “We are beaten up by goons for raising our voices against the harassment that we are being subjected to. A girl in my room has been mercilessly thrashed after she complained of poor quality food and the nature of work,” she had said.
It is relevant to mention here that, after relaxations in COVID-19 induced lockdown restrictions in the country, a group of girls from Odisha had gone to Andhra Pradesh to work in the spinning mill. However, a video surfaced 16 days back in which the girls were seen pleading to the authorities to rescue them from house arrest by the middle man, named Chittaranjan from Chandikhol.
