Bhubaneswar: Utkal University’s Post Graduate (PG) Council decided to hold students’ union polls in the varsity this year, said the council’s chairman Gopal Krushna Panda on Monday.

"The elections will be conducted as per the guidelines of the Lyngdoh Commission," Panda added.

However, the members of the council were of the opinion if any disturbance happens the university can close the process for the election, he said.

Sources said banners and posters have started coming up outside the university gate. Police have also continued with its patrolling inside the campus to maintain peace.

Notably, the student’s union polls will be held on September 29 in colleges and varsities across the state.

For the last two years, the polls were not held in the varsity due to unrest among students and cases of violence.
