Bhubaneswar: To provide the students from backward communities a better environment to grow at their fullest level, the Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste Development department is undertaking different training programmes for the teachers.
The State government, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), is providing the life skills education programmes for students in the tribal schools. The objective of the programme is to create an environment where the overall wellbeing of the students can be ensured.
According to sources, approximately 800 teachers have undergone through the training of whom 600 have been already been trained to transact life skills education in schools.
According to the plan, these teachers will conduct sessions for students having a particular theme each month during the academic session which will include safety and security, health and hygiene, especially the adolescent health, nutrition and other important areas.
The students will also learn about responsible behavior, life skills including skills for adaptability which will help the students to cope up with critical situations in life, the sources added.
Around 170 auxiliary nurses and midwives (ANMs) posted in the residential schools have also been trained on health screening, treatment of minor ailments, prompt referral and dealing with adolescent health issues in partnership with UNFPA.
This initiative came after the department issued comprehensive guidelines on safety and security of the students in schools. The department has also intimated all district level supervisory officers and heads of the schools about the guidelines.
