Bhubaneswar: Members of Odisha Sarpanch Association today gheraoed Panchayatiraj minister Arun Sahoo’s residence to press their eight-point charter of demands.
According to sources, in their 8-point demand charter, the sarpanches have sought withdrawal of the powers to bring No-Trust motion against the Sarpanchs, hike in their monthly remuneration from Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,000 and provision for retirement allowance, among others.
The protest is being supported by the 6,236 sarpanches of 314 blocks across the state.
Protesters informed that the association had earlier submitted their demands, but no action was taken by the government, forcing them to launch the protest today.
