Respite from heatwave in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Giving much needed respite to people from the gruelling heat, the mercury dropped considerably in many parts of Odisha on Tuesday even as rain and thundershower were forecast in some places.

People in the coastal belt and adjoining areas got further respite from the scorching heat as the mercury dropped in many areas including the state capital Bhubaneswar where the maximum temperature fell by three degree Celsius to 37.4 degree from 40.5 degree Celsius recorded on Monday.

Similarly, the temperature in Chandabali which was the hottest place in the state on Sunday at 42.3 degree Celsius dropped to 36.6 degree today, the met office here said.

Even in many places in western and southern Odisha, which had been sizzling for the last couple of days, the heat wave subsided considerably,

In Bhawanipatna, the temperature dropped to 41 degree Celsius from 42.2 degree Celsius recorded yesterday.

The coal belt of Talcher was the hottest place in the state today with 41.2 degree Celsius, while the mercury fell to 41 degree at Titlagarh from 42 degree recorded yesterday.

The met office predicted rain and thundershower at some places in coastal areas in next two days. Thunder squall accompanied by hail and gusty surface wind could occur at one or two places in coastal Odisha, it said.
