Bhubaneswar: Members belonging to School Teachers' Federation of Odisha (STFO), an umbrella organisation of 14 teachers’ organisations of the State, on Tuesday threatened to boycott the ensuing matriculation examination if the State government fails to consider their demands.
This was informed by STFO convenor after attending a ministerial–level meeting at the secretariat here.
Meanwhile, School and Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra has urged the striking teachers to withdraw their strike.
Earlier in the day, above 50,000 teachers were stopped by the police when they were on their way to lay siege chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence. Reports said there was a face-off between the police and the teachers. Sources said before being whisked away by the police, a rally was taken out from Master Canteen square via Raj Mahal square and Sishu Bhavan square.
On Monday, the teachers’ body had held a rally at lower PMG square here. The association also expressed their displeasure over the government decision to regularise job after eight years of service which was earlier six years.
Notably on Saturday, the teachers had gheraoed the residences of seven ministers, who are part of the inter-ministerial committee formed to look after the teachers issues, in separate groups.
