Koraput: The Odisha Police would intensify its operation against the Maoists, said Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh here on Friday.
“The year 2015 was immensely successful for us in terms of our operation against the Maoists. The Red Rebels are now losing their base. They are desperate as they have no base support. Out of frustration, they are engaged in mindless killing of innocent tribals. We would intensify our operation against them,” the DGP told media persons after a high level review meeting at the district police headquarters here.
Asked about the strategy of the State Police to counter Maoist menace with the Central para-military forces, Singh said the State Police has excellent relationship and coordination with the Central forces and combing operation with them has resulted in immense success.
Earlier in the day, the DGP, accompanied by Director (Intelligence) Sunil Ray, Special Director, (Intelligence) Arun Sarangi and IG (Operations) Soumendra Priyadarshi arrived at the district headquarters to review the Maoist situation.
The meeting was attended by Kalahandi SP Brijesh Kumar Rai, Koraput SP Charah Singh Meena, Rayagada SP K Siva Subramani, Nuapada SP Pinak Mishra and Nabaranpur SP Jugal Kishore Kumar Banoth.
The visit of the DGP has come in the wake of the Unified Command meeting, presided over by chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi in the capital city on January 13 this year.
The meeting had prepared a blueprint to counter left wing extremism (LWE) in the state and laid emphasis on proper coordination between the State Police and the Central para-military forces.
The meeting also decided to seek the opinion of senior BSF and CRPF officials on shifting of forces from their present place of deployment to other places.
At present, 16 battalions of Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel are deployed in the Maoist prone districts of the state.
