Bhubaneswar: The milk consumers across Odisha have to pay more as the state owned Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation Limited (Omfed) has decided to increase prices of milk by Rs 2 per litre. The hiked rate will be effective from February 15.
Henceforth, the households will be charged Rs 28 instead of Rs 26 for a litre of double-toned milk while toned milk will cost Rs 30 against the existing price of Rs 28 per litre. Omfed had hiked the rate of milk in February last year.
The hiked amount will directly benefit the farmers of the State, Omfed sources said.
The farmers are not willing to supply milk at the prevailing prices because the input cost, cattle food and transportation charges have gone up subsequently. Besides, cost of electricity, pasteurization and labour cost has also increased in the last few months prompting Government to put extra burden on the consumers, sources added.
