Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: With the block grant teachers continuing their agitation and announcing boycott of the ensuing matriculation examination, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) has decided to get tough with the teachers.
The schools of the agitating teachers may be excluded from examination centres' list from next year if the teachers continue with their stir, official sources said. With only two days remaining for the examination, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) is also considering legal action against the teachers refusing to cooperate with the conduct of the examination. The board has intimated the Collectors and district education officers (DEOs) in this regard.
"We will discuss whether the block grant schools would be made examination centres from next year as the teachers are not cooperating with the examination process. If required, the schools might be denied the status of examination centres from next year," BSE president DP Nanda said. "If students' interest are hit, action will be initiated after consultation with the government, he added..
On the other hand, teachers of different categories, who have been on dharna at Lower PMG square here demanding abolition of block grant policy and regularisation of their jobs, have threatened to stall ministers' visits to any block area across the State.
"Take action against us and see the repercussion. We would not allow any minister or government representative to visit any block area across the state," Prakash Mohanty, chief convenor of the teachers' association, told OTV.
Meanwhile, the government has appealed to the striking teachers to join the examination duty. "The government is emphasising the examination. So, the teachers should also prioritise it. Many of them have joined duty as centre superintendent at many places and I hope they will cooperate,” Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra said.
Sources said 2882 schools have been made examination centre out of which 162 are under block grant policy.
