Bhubaneswar: Director of Astha Chit Fund company, Chandrasen Sivaji Chouhan, was taken on remand today by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) till February 22.
Chouhan was brought under tight security from Surat jail by the central investigation agency and was produced at a special CBI court here today, which granted the remand.
Chouhan was arrested by Surat police in connection with the chit fund scam.
In September last year, the special court on chit fund had ordered confiscation of properties of scam-tainted chit fund company Astha International. According to court’s order, movable and immovable properties of Astha International worth Rs 7 crore were confiscated to be sold later.
The court issued these orders after hearing the petition of a specially empowered officer and Cuttack Additional District Magistrate.
The properties included a building in Bhubaneswar, land worth Rs 43 acre in Odisha and West Bengal, cash in different bank accounts and a Mercedes car.
