Nayagarh: A family in Nayagarh district of Odisha has been rendered homeless after their house was demolished by the order of a village court.
The incident has been reported from Gaurangapur village under Ranpur police limits in Nayagarh district. The victim, Rabindra Behera, has lodged a complaint in this regard at Ranpur police station.
According to sources, Behera had a dispute with some villagers following which his family was ostracised from the village five years back.
The villagers again organised a Kangaroo court recently and razed down Behera’s house alleging that it was constructed on government land.
“They ransacked my house and took away Rs 35,000 which I had received under Indra Awas Yojana. I have lodged an FIR in this regard at the local police station, but the officials refused to intervene in the matter. I remained at the police station till the evening and returned disheartened,” said Behera.
Prahallad Majhi, a local resident, said, “The Kangaroo court members came and ransacked Behera’s house and took away cash and other valuables.”
When contacted, Nayagarh SP Dilip Sahni said, “As the family has lodged a complaint, a case will be registered and action will be taken accordingly.”
