One Student Killed, Nine Others Injured In Road Mishap In Odisha

Gajapati: A school student was killed while nine others suffered critical injuries after an auto-rickshaw ferrying them to school was hit by a tractor at G. Udaygiri in Gajapati district on Saturday.The injured students have been admitted to Chandragiri hospital.

The mishap occurred today morning when the auto-rickshaw carrying the 10 students from Ranalai village was on its way to a school at Ramchandrapur.

The tractor, which was coming from the opposite direction, hit the auto-rickshaw head-on killing one student on the spot, said sources. The deceased has been identified as Lubun Karada.

Tension erupted in the area following the mishap as the locals staged a road blockade near Chheligarh Square demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. Vehicular movement between Mohana and R Udaygiri was disrupted due to the blockade.

Meanwhile, the situation was brought under control after police reached the spot and held discussions with the locals.
