Nabarangpur: One of the two minor girls who went missing from Pakhanaguda village in Raighar block of the district a few days ago was found dead in an abandoned well near the village on Thursday.

The girl identified as Panchabati (9), daughter of Mahadev Tiwary of the village had gone missing since February 4 along with another minor girl Laxmi, daughter of Prakash Pandey of nearby Gona village.

As per reports, the two girls were last seen playing in Pakhanaguda village on February 4. Later, their families tried to trace them but despite a frantic search, they were unsuccessful in finding the both. Cops launched a probe after the families lodged an FIR at Kundei Police Station in connection with the incident.

Based on the complaint, cops conducted searches in the villages and nearby areas but the girls could not be traced. However, dead body of Panchabati was spotted floating in a well yesterday evening by some locals.

Umerkote SDPO informed that the body of the girl will be recovered from the well today as the operation could not be carried out in the night yesterday.

Meanwhile, whereabouts of another missing girl, Laxmi is yet to be traced by the police officials.

Some villagers suspect that the girls might have been abducted by someone for human sacrifice.

“The two girls had gone to play and went missing. Few days ago, miscreants chopped off the tongue of a woman and his son of nearby village. We think that they too might have been kidnapped by someone, said a villager, Kamlesh Sharma.
