Berhampur: Berhampur police seized a car registered in the name of self-styled godman Santosh Raul alias Sarathi Baba from Badabazar area here on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a house in the area and seized the Hyundai Getz vehicle which was in an abandoned state.
“We have seized a vehicle bearing registration number OR-02 AZ 8804. From preliminary investigation, it is learnt that the vehicle is registered in the name of Sarathi Baba,” Berhampur SDPO Santanu Das said.
“We are investigating the matter further,” the official stated.
A few months back, in a similar fashion, a luxurious vehicle was also seized from the parking area of a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. The Toyota Fortuner car was found to be registered in the name of Sarathi Baba under Regional Transport Office (RTO), Bhubaneswar.
Suspicion had grown after it was noticed that the number plate of the vehicle was missing.
Since August last, the godman is lodged in Choudwar jail.
