Cuttack: A youth, who is lodged in jail for going back on his promise of marrying a minor girl with whom he had a love affair, finally tied the nuptial knot with her inside a prison in Odisha on Thursday.
The marriage of Narasingh Das and Puja Das was solemnised as per Vedic tradition at Choudwar circle jail in Cuttack district in the presence of their family members and jail staff.
Narasingh, who hails from Sankataras village under Sadar police limits, was in love with Puja of the same village. However, after ditching her, Narasingh planned to marry another girl. When the girl’s family learnt about it, they approached police and lodged a complaint against the youth.
On the basis of the complaint, the youth was arrested by the police on September 28, 2019 under protection of children from sexual offence (POCSO) Act and lodged in Choudwar jail.
“We were in love, but he refused to marry me following which my family had lodged a complaint against him. During his stay in jail, he agreed to the marriage and it was held today. We are hopeful of leading a happy marital life,” said Puja.
Jail DIG Kulamani Behera said the marriage was conducted following the intervention of the Orissa High Court.
“This is the second time marriage was solemnised at this circle jail. It was held following the directives of the Orissa High Court and director general of jail. He was in jail after being arrested under POCSO act and married victim Puja Das today. The marriage was solemnised as per the Vedic rituals,” Behera said.
