Nabarangpur: A septuagenarian woman from the town willed her three-storey ancestral house, worth over Rs 1 crore, to Lord Jagannath five days prior to her death in an extraordinary gesture of devotion for the Lord of the Universe.
Baijayantimala Sahu breathed her last on December 2 after battling cancer for a protracted period. She is survived by her bed-ridden husband Bhabani Sahu, a retired Revenue Inspector and three daughters.
According to sources, Baijayantimala had no son and she had adopted Lord Jagannath as her son. She had told her daughters Pushpanjali, Gitanjali and Shradhanjali that she wished to donate the family’s three-storey building in the town, which is estimated to worth around Rs 1 crore, to Lord Jagannath. Her daughters happily agreed to her mother’s wish.
Baijayantimala donated the building to the managing committee of the Jagannath Temple in the town in the presence of her three daughters and husband when she was in a critical condition.
Moreover, she also donated her ‘Mangalsutra’ and silver ornaments to another temple--the Nilakantheswar temple-- in the town.
“We are proud of our mother’s gesture. She was a great devotee of lord Jagannath. She had expressed her desire to gift the building to the Lord few years before her death and we all gladly agreed,” stated Baijayantimala’s bereaved elder daughter Puspanjali.
Members of the Nabarangpur Jagannath temple management also expressed their gratitude towards the late Baijayantimala for her noble act.
“She was a great individual and an ardent devotee of Lord Jagannath. She always wanted to sacrifice everything to the Lord. Now that she did it, Lord Jagannath will definitely bless her soul for salvation,” said Narasingha Tripathy, member of the temple managing committee.
