Bhubaneswar: The well marked low pressure area over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression and lies in the same region, informed the Regional Metrological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
It is likely to concentrate into a cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours, added the Bhubaneswar Met Centre.
The system is expected to move towards north-west-wards and cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram around November 25 noon or afternoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had said yesterday.
Under its influence, several districts in South and North Odisha will experience heavy rainfall for couple of days from November 25.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is expected to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha today.
The Met office forecast dense fog at one or two places over the dist of Kandhamal, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Rayagada, Dhenkanal on November 24.
On November 25, light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of South Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of North Odisha. Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati.
Similarly on November 26, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Rayagada and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, and Koraput.
Meanwhile, mercury continued to fall in several places of the State as eight stations recorded temperature below 15 degree Celsius on Sunday. Sonepur was the coldest with 11.2 degree Celsius followed by Phulbani (12.5 degree C), Daringbadi (12.5), Jharsuguda (12.6), Baripada (13.2), Bhawanipatna (13.2), Keonjhar (13.4) and Angul (13.6).
Minimum temperature in Bhubaneswar was registered at 18.1 degree C and Cuttack 26.0 degree C respectively yesterday.
