Rourkela: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday conducted raids at separate places in Rourkela and Berhampur over disproportionate assets cases.
The anti-graft officials on Tuesday raided the residence of a Commercial Tax official working at the office of GST in Rourkela. The official identified as Alekh Mahananda has been charged with accumulating properties disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A joint team of vigilance officials from Rourkela and Sundergarh has carried out searches simultaneously at his residence at Chhend Colony in Rourkela, in-laws house, his ancestral house and office, vigilance sources said.
Mahananda, however, has feigned ignorance about the allegations against him. "I have been working at GST office for last 30 years. I am not aware about the allegations levelled against me. I am cooperating with the vigilance in their searches", he added.

In a separate incident, the anti-corruption agency has conducted raid on the house of an Anganwadi worker in Berhampur for allegedly amassing ill-gotten properties. The worker identified as Namita Dalei is working at the Anganwadi centre at Ward no 9 in the city. The vigilance officials have carried out searches at five places in Berhampur and two places in Bhubaneswar. The raids have been conducted simultaneously, officials said.
Four days ago, the anti-corruption squad had arrested an assistant engineer of Public Works Department (PWD), posted at Sundargarh town for allegedly accumulating properties disproportionate to his known source of income.
In November this year, the agency had conducted similar raids at the offices and residences of two forest department officials on charges of possessing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.
