Bhubaneswar: As many as 21,726 people including elderly persons above 60 years of age and people over 45 years of age with co-morbidities were vaccinated against Covid-19 on Tuesday taking the total number of immunizations to 33,315 in the first two days of the second phase vaccination drive in Odisha.

"As many as 20,952 people above 60 years of age received the vaccine jab yesterday while 774 beneficiaries with co-morbidities also took the shot," the State Health director Bijay Panigrahi informed reporters today.
He said that 7 lakh doses of vaccine have been procured by the State now. "The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had asked us through a video conference not to create buffer stock of the vaccines. The Centre has asked the State government to include more people in the inoculation. Earlier we had been asked to create buffer stock, but now the Centre has directed to use the vaccines as much as possible," he said adding that the Centre has assured to provide adequate doses to carry forward the immunization drive.
Antibody tests are also being conducted at VIMSAR, RMRC and Capital Hospital to assess the creation of antibodies in the blood after vaccination, The Health Director said. No adverse effect of the vaccine has been reported from anywhere across the State so far, he noted while admitting glitches in CoWin app that posed hurdle during on-line registration.
