Bhubaneswar: The State Transport department will soon go hi-tech to penalise violators as part of its strategy to minimize loss of human lives in road accidents in Odisha.
As per plans, the Transport department will soon install intelligent camera (CCTV) systems on the entire stretch of the National Highway No-16 from Rameswar in Khorda district to Panikohili in Jajpur district.
The CCTV cameras will be installed in every 4 to 5 kms of the NH, informed Odisha Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda on Monday.
According to Panda, the new system will play a crucial role in putting a check on incidents of rash driving on the national highway and intercepting vehicles with fake registration numbers.
"It is an ambitious project and we have got response from 32 bidders in the tender process. The work for the installation of intelligent camera systems will be taken up soon," the Transport Commissioner said.
Apart from this, the Transport department has also allocated Rs 15 crores for the mega vehicle location tracking system.
As per plans, GPS systems will be installed in public transport vehicles including buses, taxis and school buses. The system will be helpful in tracking the vehicles on a real time basis and their speed can also be analysed, Panda said adding that the project is under tender process.
