Berhampur: With the number of daily coronavirus infections coming down to single-digit in Ganjam, the district administration has reportedly decided to close the Covid-services at Tata Hospital in Sitalapalli area by the end of this month.
In a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital in Bhubaneswar, the Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange mentioned the decision taken in the district level meeting and further expressed his gratitude to the authorities for extending support in fighting the pandemic. "Your support for management of Tata Covid Hospital is highly appreciated and your dedication to manage the Covid cases at the Covid Hospital during the pandemic situation is unforgettable," stated Kulange.
However, as new infections of COV1D-19 in Ganjam district have drastically reduced and the bed occupancy rate of Tata Covid Hospital is also very less, it has been decided to close the Tata Covid Hospital with effect from November 30, 2020. "You are therefore requested not to admit new cases in the Tata Covid Hospital and necessary formalities on handing the hospital may be executed," the Collector stated.
To strengthen the Covid strategy in Ganjam, a 200-bed COVID-19 hospital, including a 20-bed ICU unit was made functional at the Tata Hospital in Sitalapalli. CM Naveen in July further announced the commencement of Plasma Therapy at the Tata Covid Hospital for treatment of critical Covid patients.
Once tagged as the lethal hotspot, the Ganjam district has managed to fight the pandemic like none else by enforcing strict measures for the safety of all and sundry.
As per administration data, the district has less than 100 active cases as on Thursday morning. Of the total 21517 confirmed cases of Covid, 21180 patients have already recuperated from the disease, taking the cure rate to 98.4 per cent. This apart, 233 patients have succumbed to the virus since the day the pandemic broke out in the district.
