Berhampur: The Class XI student of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Berhampur P Biswanath Patra, who was recently appreciated by Russian President Vladimir Putin for his innovative ‘Smart Water Dispenser’ project at the Deep Technology Education Programme at Sochi in Russia, recently arrived at his hometown to a rousing reception.
Sharing his experience with OTV on getting a pat from the Russian President, Patra said, "Meeting Russian President was overwhelming as he has been co-operating in enhancing nuclear energy ties with India. Seeing students like me taking interest in nuclear energy field, Putin said such bond between the two countries should continue."
Patra's project was among the top 50 projects that were selected by Niti Ayog's Atal Innovation Mission (AIM). After interview and evaluation, 25 students from India including the lone boy from Odisha, Patra were picked up to attend the technology education programme in Russia.
"I was among the 25-member delegation from India. I was in the 'Clean Energy Group' and our aim was to find out alternative sources of energy present on earth. AIM's director R Ramanan introduced us to the Russian students there," said Patra
Professors and officials from Moscow State University, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and other industrial areas of Russia attended the international programme, he added.
Further speaking about the project that took him to the global forum, Patra said, "I was selected for my project 'Smart Water Dispenser' which will help in the management of water and the idea struck me when I was in Class X."
Patra's School Principal said, "Not only are the school, the people of Berhampur city and Odisha proud of him."
The Deep Technology Education Programme was held from November 30 to December 6.
