Odisha SP Lauded For Launching Livelihood Support For Transgenders

Gajapati: Known for her novel initiatives for women empowerment, Gajapati SP Sara Sharma has once again come out to lend a helping hand to the transgender community by launching a a unique livelihood concept.

Sharma has set up an OMFED parlour for transgenders so that they can eke out a living in a more dignified manner.

“The OMEFD parlour has been named Surabhi and will be manned by transgenders. The idea to do something for the members of the community came during a social interaction. It was during that time when I realised the problems they face on a daily basis,” said Sharma.

“We thank Gajapati SP and others for extending support to us,” said a transgender, Madhu Kinnar.

Earlier, Sharma had hogged limelight for launching several initiatives for women safety. A pilot project on the lines of ‘Safety-Health-Environment’ (SHE) initiative of Hyderabad Police was also rolled out by Sharma.
