Bhubaneswar: Mercury dropped to 11.2 degrees Celsius at Sonepur on Sunday night as cold wave conditions returned to the Stare after a brief gap.
As a result, normal life across the State was partially affected in the past 24 hours.
Eight places in the State recorded minimum temperature (night temperature) below 15 degree Celsius on Sunday. Sonepur district recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 11.2 degree Celsius.
As per India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar, the mercury dipped to 12. 5 degree Celsius in Phulbani, 12.6 in Jharsuguda, Bhawanipatna (13.2), Baripada (13.2), Keonjhar (13.4), Angul (13.6) while Talcher recorded the minimum temperature at 15.0 degrees Celsius.
The Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded minimum temperatures of 16 and 18.1 degree Celsius, respectively. The Met department officials anticipate a further drop of the minimum temperatures by at least 3 to 5 degrees across the State in the next 48 hours.
“There has been a sudden dip in temperatures since yesterday (Sunday). It is happening after a gap of almost a week. It seems the cold wave conditions have returned. We expect that the conditions will continue for another couple of weeks,” said Kishore, a resident of Bangali Sahi in Cuttack.
The temperatures across Odisha is likely to witness a marginal drop in coming days as the Met department has predicted light to moderate rain and thunderstorm in some parts till November 26.
Besides, yellow warning (dense fog alert) has also been issued for one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Rayagada, Dhenkanal in the next 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall alert has also been issued for the districts of Gajapati, Rayagada Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Malkangiri and Koraput between November 26 and 27.
