Bhubaneswar: The upward trend of Covid-19 cases continued in Odisha with 108 more persons testing positive for the virus on Tuesday. With this, the total number of confirmed cases surged to 4163 in the State.
Of the 108 new positive cases, 95 cases were reported from various quarantine centres across the State while the remaining 13 are local contacts.
Malkangiri district accounted for highest 21 number of new coronavirus cases, followed by Puri (15) while Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur reported nine cases each.
Ganjam reported 8 cases, Khurda and Gajapati seven cases each, Keonjhar 5, Balasore 4, Sundargarh 2, one case each in Cuttack, Kalahandi, Bargarh, Bolangir and Angul.
Similarly, 16 more fire services personnel who were engaged in relief and restoration works in West Bengal after cyclone Amphan and returned to the State have been tested positive for the virus. So far 174 personnel have been tested positive for coronavirus in the State.
A total of 2988 RT-PCR tests were conducted in the State in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative tests to 205501. The total active cases in the State now stand at 1295 with as many as 2854 persons cured of the disease so far. The death toll remained at 11.
Ganjam district registered highest number of coronavirus cases in the State with detection of 698 confirmed cases so far. However, 613 patients have recovered from the disease in the district, bringing down active cases to 79. The district also witnessed deaths of six Covid-19 patients.
Apart from the new cases, 120 persons recuperated from COVID-19, taking the total recoveries in Odisha to 2974 today. A highest of 19 recoveries were reported from Jajpur and 15 from Cuttack district.
