Bhubaneswar: Seeking foreign investment in the information technology (IT) and Electronic System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) sectors for the state, Odisha government on Friday said it is committed to creating an open environment in the field.
"To accommodate the future development in IT and ESDM sectors, the state government is developing one IT Investment Region (ITIR) in the southern part of Bhubaneswar," Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said after inaugurating the annual e-Odisha summit here.
The state government is committed to creating an open environment to attract investment from IT/ESDM industries and foreign investors, he said.
Stating that the state government has prepared a Road Map for development of ESDM sector in the state, Patnaik said several steps are being taken to build Bhubaneswar as a top IT destination among Tier-II cities in the country.
In order to promote such investments, Patnaik said IT Special Economic Zones (SEZ) have been established at Infocity and the second one is being established at Infovalley in Bhubaneswar. Further, the government has brought out a new industry friendly ICT Policy 2014. With a number of incentives to boost the IT/ITES and ESDM sector in Odisha, he said.
Stating that IT sector was at the top of his government's agenda and Odisha has been in forefront in the IT revolution in our country in the past 20 years, Patnaik said four major IT players, Infosys, TCS, WIPRO and Mahindra Satyam have established their development centres at Bhubaneswar.
The IT exports from the state have been very encouraging with the state registering an export of more than Rs l,900 crore during the year 2012-13, he said.
After establishing Software Technology Parks at Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Rourkela, the state government in collaboration with the Centre has approved establishment of another STPI at Balasore for the benefit of IT entrepreneurs of North Odisha.
