Bhubaneswar: The cadets of Odisha Remount and Veterinary (R and V) Squadron, bettered their performance by displaying their skills and mastery in horsemanship at the Republic Day Camp (RDC) held in New Delhi recently and won four medals from 16 events this year.
The four medals which the Bhubaneswar R and V NCC Squadron won include two gold and one silver and bronze medal, respectively.
According to sources, the State cadets also won the Best Rider Trophy and DIG RVS Trophy (Best Show Jumper) in the girls’ category after a gap of 16 years. With this, the Odisha R&V NCC Squadron was placed in the fourth position in the month-long competition during the Republic Day Camp in New Delhi. They were placed at the 8th position last year.
The Commanding Officer of Odisha R&V NCC Squadron said that preparation has already begun to make the State Squadron team champion in the future.
“Our next target is to win at least five gold medals and all the trophies in the Republic Day Camp (RDC),” said Lieutenant Colonel Alok Ranjan Palai, the Commanding officer, Odisha R&V NCC Squadron.
The cadets also expressed their happiness over attending the national event as it was a learning experience for them. “Apart from enjoying during the month-long Republic Day Camp (RDC), we got an opportunity to learn many new things. This experience will certainly help us to perform better in the future,” said cadet Rishika Raje Dash, Best Rider trophy winner.
Expressing views on challenges during the completion, Rishika said “First of all there was intense cold wave condition and as per as the competition is concerned, every individual comes there with lot of preparations. You have to give them a tough fight or else you would lose the competition.”
The Bhubaneswar-based Remount and Veterinary (R and V) Squadron is the only horse unit in the State. Students from different colleges and schools are honing their equestrian skills at the centre which was commissioned in 1966.
