Bhubaneswar: With a single-day spike of 550 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, Odisha’s COVID-19 tally went up to 3,17,789 on Saturday. Of the fresh cases, 317 are from quarantine centres, while 233 are local contact cases, informed State Information and Public Relations (I&PR) department.
Only one district has reported a surge beyond 50 cases. Angul district recorded the highest 53 new cases, followed by Khordha (49), Sundargarh (47), Mayurbhanj (40), Sambalpur (37) and Cuttack (35). Gajapati and Kandhamal districts reported zero cases during the period.
As per State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department, the death toll has jumped to 1730 with 12 more fatalities in the last 24 hours. Four deaths were reported from Sundargarh, three from Khordha (Bhubaneswar), two from Angul while one each succumbed in Balasore, Jajpur and Dhenkanal districts.
The health department has also shared the details of the Covid-19 patients who succumbed while under treatment at hospitals during the period.
- A 67-year-old male of Angul district who was also suffering from CCF & Diabetes Mellitus.
- A 56-year-old male of Angul district.
- A 65-year-old male of Balasore who was also suffering from CAD Post PTCA, BPH.
- A 68-year-old male of Bhubaneswar who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension & BHP.
- A 67-year-old male of Bhubaneswar.
- A 60-year-old male of Bhubaneswar.
- A 57-year-old male of Dhenkanal district who was also suffering from CKD, Epilepsy.
- A 72-year-old male of Jajpur district.
- A 76-year-old male of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, CAD & old age.
- A 60-year-old male of Sundargarh district.
- A 75-year-old male of Sundargarh district who expired due to Diabetes Mellitus, Pancytopenia.
- A 78-year-old male of Sundargarh district who expired due to Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension & CAD.
A total of 42,014 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 58,19,584 in Odisha. After today’s surge, the State's active caseload stood at 6,259 while 3,09,747 patients have so far recovered from the infection.
