Bhubaneswar: Odisha continues to witness a steep rise in the coronavirus curve with the detection of 1499 new cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the COVID-19 tally in the State reached 31877 on Friday. This apart, 8 more positive patients have succumbed to the virus.

Since July 22, Odisha has reported single-day cases in four digits with the biggest spike of 1594 positives on July 24.

As per information shared by I&PR department, maximum new cases were reported from Ganjam district (368), followed by Khurda (214), Gajapati (97), Dhenkanal (92), Koraput (81) and Sundergarh (75).

Latest reports indicate that Ganjam district's COVID tally has breached 10,000-mark, while total coronavirus infections zoomed past 4K-mark in Khurda district.

The total recoveries stand at 19745 while active case count is 11,918. The State health authorities conducted 14,335 new tests on Thursday, taking cumulative tests to 5,14,573.

State H&FW department shares details of 8 new COVID deaths:

A 12-year-old positive patient also died due to other co-morbidities.

Despite a sharp increase in positive cases this month, the COVID-19 case fatality rate (CFR) in Odisha is third-lowest in the country, informed Health Ministry yesterday.
