Rairakhol: A sub-divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) was caught while accepting a bribe from a patient at the subdivision hospital here in Sambalpur district on Monday.
The SDMO, Bipin Sahoo was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 5500 from the attendants of a patient.
Sahoo allegedly demanded the illegal gratification for conducting an operation on the patient who was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Relatives of the patient expressed inability to pay, but to no avail. Later they lodged a complaint at the office of Sambalpur vigilance division who laid a trap in his office early on Monday.
A little after the noon when the bribe-seeking doctor was accepting the money from the attendants of the patient, plain cloth vigilance sleuths who were waiting in disguise made a swoop and rounded him up. He was subsequently put under arrest and booked under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He will be produced in a special court later during the day, Vigilance sources said.
