Malkangiri: A man was brutally murdered on suspicion of practicing sorcery at Nandaguda village under Padia block of Malkangiri district.
The murder took place last night and came to light today after the wife of the deceased, Karam Kana, lodged a complaint with the local police.
According to sources, some miscreants asked Kana to come out of his house last night and when he stepped out, the miscreants hacked him to death in front of his house.
After committing the crime, the miscreants took the body on the bank of Saberi river, about 2 km away from the victim’s house, where they severed his head. They also burnt the head and buried remaining part of the body in the sand to destroy evidence, said sources.
The body of the deceased was retrieved by the police today in the presence of Motu Tehsildar. A scientific team also visited the spot and inquired into the case.
On the basis of the complaint of the deceased’s wife, the police have detained some villagers for questioning.
