Mayurbhanj: A youth was thrashed and later detained by the irate locals for allegedly clicking photographs of a woman without her permission at Udala area in the district on Saturday.

According to reports, passersby accosted the youth after the latter started taking multiple photographs of a woman on his mobile phone despite the woman’s objection. The woman also reported the matter to the villagers. Following this, villagers and passersby allegedly thrashed the youth and detained him.

The irate mob also forced the youth to delete the pictures from his cell phone. Later he was handed over to the Udala police.

“Without any reason and permission snapping photographs of a woman at a public place shows that the intention of the accused was to outrage the modesty of the complainant. Stern action should be taken against the accused,” said a local.

Earlier last week, a youth had been detained for allegedly trying to capture photographs and videos of a girl secretly while she was changing clothes in a trial room of a shopping mall in Keonjhar.

The girl had gone to the mall in the town to buy clothes. After selecting some clothes, she went to one of the trial rooms for checking out the fitting. While she was taking off her clothes, she saw a black object in a corner of the stall. She looked up and saw a mobile phone with its camera angled over the edge.

When the girl realised that she had been clandestinely photographed she raised an alarm following which the security personnel at the mall rushed to her help and caught hold of the youth. Later he was handed over to the Town police.
