Bhadrak: Satyajit Behera from Chandbali is an aspirational story of a boy from rural Odisha realising his dreams through grit and determination on the face of deprivation and adversaries.

The meritorious student, son of a farmer at Karanjamala village under Chandabali block in the district, has proved that extreme poverty and lack of facilities can’t come on the way of success. Making the entire district proud, Satyajit recently cracked NEET 2020, one of the toughest competitive examinations in the country. He has now taken admission in the prestigious AIIMS, Kolkata.

Satyajit’s father Ramakant is the sole bread earner in his family while mother Minati is a homemaker and helps his father in farming. His poor father had to borrow money to meet his admission expenses.

In Satyajit his parents had pinned hopes for liberation from the abject poverty and misery. And Satyajit managed to live up to that.

“Our long-cherished dream has come true. I am proud that my son would be the first doctor in our panchayat,” said a proud Ramakant.

Satyajit managed his studies till Std 10 from his ramshackle thatched house before moving to Bhubaneswar to prepare for the entrance test.

“On my brother-in-law’s advice I moved to Bhubaneswar to prepare for medical entrances. Since I had scored good marks in the matriculation examination I got a seat in the BJB college,” said Satyajit.

However, it wasn’t a cake walk. While Satyajit remained glued to his studies amidst severe financial constraints, his parents had to work doubly hard to raise the money required for his studies.

But it was the conviction of his parents that kept him going. They kept him motivated and consistently encouraged him to prepare for medical entrance.

“We are landless as my father had to sell our little land to meet the wedding expenses of my two sisters. He has to work very hard as a sharecropper to provide me money for my studies,” said Satyajit.

Satyajit said the success in cracking NEET was more comforting for his parents than himself. “I am very happy for my parents. Their hard work and blessings made it happen. After completing my studies I want to contribute towards developing health care facilities in our area,” he added.
