Bhubaneswar: The weather will breathe fire over Odisha during the coming summer months of April - May. A respite from the red hot mercury will be in sight right in the month of June only when the skies will pour over the cold water.
Such is the forecast regarding the weather outlook for Odisha during the three summer months of April - June has been made by the lead climate research centre - the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (APEC) Climate Centre.
Even, the IMD's MME (Multi-Model Ensemble) long-range forecast has made a forecast of sizzling April for Odisha. The IMD MME forecast shows maximum temperature in the State will remain 3-5 degree Celsius over the normal temperature for the month of April.
IMD FORECAST FOR APRIL
As per the MME long-range forecast, almost the entire western districts in Odisha will record a daytime maximum temperature of 42 degree Celsius or above from mid-April.
The central districts like Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, parts of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj adjoining Jharkhand are also predicted to witness the mercury rising to 42 degree Celsius.
Except for the coastal districts of Jagatsingpur, Puri, Ganjam, the remaining districts, including the State capital Bhubaneswar will record around 40 -41 degree Celsius from the mid of April, predicts the MME of IMD.
The southern districts in the State will also witness sizzling mercury during the month of April. (Temperature is predicted to hover between 38-40 deg C).
THE APEC FORECAST FOR APRIL - JUNE
As per the MME forecast by the lead global climate institute, there is a 60 per cent probability of Odisha recording above normal temperature in the month of April.
If the APEC forecast is to be believed, then the month of April will be hot and muggy. Since the SST (sea surface temperature) will remain above normal temperature, the sea wind will carry a lot of water vapour. Therefore, the month will be hot and muggy.
MAY: The prediction gives no news of relief to citizens in Odisha during the peak summer month of May. The MME predicts a 50 per cent probability of temperature remaining above normal. Coastal areas may feel the pinch in May, the model predicts.
JUNE: However, the news of comfort is June in Odisha will see the hot mercury cooling down.
"There is nearly a 60 per cent probability that June in Odisha will record below normal temperature," says the prediction.
Simultaneously, the MME gives a high probability (over 50 per cent) of the State receiving above-normal rainfall in the month of June.
