Bhubaneswar: Days after the Supreme Court upheld UGC decision to conduct final semester examinations of the Under Graduate (UG) and the Post Graduate (PG) courses by September 30, the Department of Higher Education- Odisha has now requested the UGC to extend the exam deadline to October 10, 2020.
The State government mentioned that this will ensure scheduling of exams with at least one day gap so that exam centres can be sanitized properly and adequate precautions are followed as per COVID protocols.
It is to be noted that the Apex Court had mentioned that final year examinations cannot be scrapped this year but States can seek deferment of the dates beyond September 30 due to the coronavirus crisis, adding that States cannot promote students without final year examinations.
"State Government today requested University Grants Commission (UGC) to extend the deadline of September 30, for completion of all UG and PG final semester/year exams, till October 10. Final exams shall be held between September 20 and October 10," the DHE tweeted.
The exams will be conducted as per UGC guidelines in online, offline, open book and other prescribed modes. However, the concerned universities and colleges would take a final call on the mode of examination.
Results of all the exams will be published by October 31.
“Those who fail to appear in the exams on dates scheduled can appear for the same after the COVID-19 crisis subsides. Universities/colleges will make special arrangements for those students to appear for the exam in pen and paper mode,” a government release read.
The final semester students can also appear for their back paper exams, if any, the results of which will also be published by October 31.
